The One-Eyed Man
Most people are making it up as they go. This letter is about uncertainty, curiosity, and the freedom that comes from realising you don't need all the answers.
Dear Leo,
Oscar Wilde once said that if you know exactly what you want to be in life, a teacher, a doctor, a lawyer, you will become it, and that is your punishment.
I've always found that quote fascinating.
Not because there is anything wrong with being a teacher, a doctor, or a lawyer. Quite the opposite.
But because I think what he was really talking about was certainty.
The pressure we place on ourselves to have everything figured out. To know exactly where we're going. Exactly who we're becoming. Exactly what our life is supposed to look like.
The older I get, the more I realise that very few people actually have that sort of certainty.
And that's okay.
In fact, I think it's more normal than we realise.
